It's that time of the year again when it's getting cold and batteries get drained. I'm thinking of getting the TecMate Optimate 3 battery optimiser. Has anyone used one and have any view ?

Yes, I've got one Aardvark, although it's the Triumph labelled version, essentially the same though. I use C-Tek chargers as well. One thing that has come up, now I am connecting up charge leads and Keis leads, etc to the battery as well, is to have a think about the type of connectors used for the charger fly lead. Some people have devices such as mini compressors that can also be plugged in to the one lead. So rather than trying to find adapters or having two or three eyelets to connect to the battery terminals, finding a more universal fly lead can help.
Apart from that, all the Optimate chargers I've used are plug in and forget.

Agree with 3teeth660, been using an Optimate on all my bikes for years, and all the time they're laid up in the winter.
Some will say they've never used battery tenders and never had a problem, all well and good but why chance it..

Thanks for the replies. Have just ordered the Optimate. Looked (and felt) really cold this morning and I needed the bike so was relieved when it started ok. I don't know why anyone would take a chance on a battery draining in the cold and not buy a charger !

Have an Oxford Oximiser 3x. Comes with a fly lead with a water ingress cover you can attach to the terminals and stash away under the seat when not in use.
Does a great job - also have fly leads attached the the old Porsche and Lotus too.

That reminds me - it's cold and as I'm stuck isolating because "covid", time to stick the charger on until I'm allowed out again :(
